Rave - Dec. 15th
Nonprofit Volunteers
I feel like they need a rave about their work. On my way home from the gym, I crossed into the path of a girl trying to get people to donate to Save the Children.
Immediately, I felt bad for her. It’s all of 14 degrees today, and no one wants to stop, not even for the poor chirruns. She caught me looking at her as I hurried past and tried to get me to stop. Luckily for us both, I already give to STC. We high-fived and then I left.
What I don’t understand is the people who spit out mean words to the volunteers. Why get mad? It’s not as if she is excited to be standing out in the cold asking for money. Don’t bother to say anything if you feel the need to holler. Even if I’m not going to give any money, I’ll at least politely say no. Having done volunteer work like that (in the summer, mind you) I know it’s no walk in the park.
So the next time you see a volunteer on the street and feel some hate talk bubbling up on your throat, give them a break. Then give them some money.

Dictionary Time!!!
chirruns: (n) children. Typically what I say to refer to a large group of them. (e.g. “There are a whole lot of chirruns running around this restaurant. Get your chirruns!”)
