Dad’s Clothes
Oh the circle of life. I’m now at the point where I “borrow” clothes from my father. I make no apologies about this. It’s in the life cycle of every man. Eventually, your father’s clothes will either A) be back in vogue, B) be worn in enough to make them amazingly comfortable, or C) act as a symbol of the respect you have for him.
When I was younger, I didn’t feel this way. Like most teenage boys, I thought my dad dressed like, well, a dad. I was *way* too cool for his clothes. Plus it was the 90’s, so you know I looked cool (read: a hot hot mess in glasses AND braces.) How the tides have turned!
I currently have a couple of pieces I’ve pinched from his closet. A green polo shirt which gets major compliments (partially because of the embroidered logo - a dragon.) A baby blue sweater, patched in a, “This is my ‘lounging at the Cape’ sweater” way. I probably have some others I can’t even remember were his.
It gets better. I’ve been kicking myself for not taking a pair of black boots he offered me in high school. They would have been perfect for wearing with a suit in the winter months. Damn.
(Mom, feel free to laugh about that last one. When Pop first offered me the boots, I flatly turned him down.)
In anticipation of being home for the holidays, I already have a piece in mind that I’d like to “borrow” for the rest of my life. Prepare yourself Dad!
